This thesis was my minor diploma. In this project, two works emerged from one.
The first version is a sculpture with an internal light source. The plexiglass becomes the focal point, suspended in the space as a luminous object. This time the sculpture has its own light inside and illuminates the plexiglass from the inside out. The light is cast through the Plexiglas to the edges of the individual Plexiglas layers, emphasizing the form. I presented the work in a dark room, whereby I also designed the room itself in a light-technical way.
In the second version, the sculpture is illuminated from the outside by a swinging light. This creates a shadow of the sculpture on a white wall.
The shadow takes on a different scale and dimension — my work expands into a visual, living analogue piece. The movement of the pendulum light introduces a natural rhythm into the shadow of my sculpture, creating a depth within the form — a depth that contracts and expands like a breathing organ.

version 2 - just the shadow

I concentrate on creating tension through ambivalence, a feeling of uncertainty through the fact that the sculpture seems so sharp-edged and dangerous on the one hand and so attractive through the light on the other hand.
The nail has many associations, which aroused my interest at the beginning of my process: The nail as the axis of the world, which represents the connection between the center of heaven and earth. The nail in the Brothers Grimm story in which the message could be summarized as: “He who does not take care in small things must suffer damage in great things” And the holy nails Jesus Christ, the crucifixion and everything that goes with it.
In the process, however, the nail gained other thoughts: the light alone stands for the idea of the “higher” and in connection with the nail I point to the idea of the illusion of a holy light that could save man. "Stepping closer to the light stabs man to death. "
